Disaster Risk Reduction
Zimbabwe, yesterday joined other African States to endorse the Declaration of the 8th high-level meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction in Windhoek Namibia.
The country was respresented by the Chief Director, in the Department of Civil Protection Mr Nathan Nkomo who stood in for the Minister of Local Government and Public Works Hon D Garwe.
The ministers, in the declaration, expressed concern over the growing severity and frequency of weather and climate extremes related disasters, particulary those triggered by El Nino Southern Oscillation.
he declaration also marked the end of a three High-Level Meeting whose recommendations are also set inform the outcome of the 2025 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction scheduled to take place from 2 to 6 June 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Zimbabwe, like many other countries in Southern Africa is grappling with a drought after the country received little rains last season.
